Igor Butman’s Moscow Jazz Orchestra to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 25 Russian cities

In October 2024, the Igor Butman Moscow Jazz Orchestra turns 25. As the orchestra’s artistic director Igor Butman said, several celebratory events are planned in honor of this anniversary: ​​concerts at the Variety Theater, a large tour of 25 cities of Russia, as well as the release of a new album, which will include works by M.Mussorgsky and A.Borodin. The arrangements for the new album were written by composer Nikolai Levinovsky, who will celebrate his 80th anniversary this year.

A series of concerts in Moscow will be held from October 1 to 3 at the Variety Theater with the participation of famous musicians, actors and cultural figures: Valery Syutkin, Sergey Mazaev, Alexey Guskov, Yuri Bashmet, Khibla Gerzmava, Fantine and others.

On October 1, the Igor Butman Moscow Jazz Orchestra and the band “Soloists of Moscow” under the direction of Yuri Bashmet will present a unique joint program, which will feature both classical melodies in jazz arrangements and jazz standards in an orchestral setting. Opera diva, Hibla Gerzmava, will also perform that evening – she will render popular jazz standards, favorite songs and classical pieces in jazz arrangements.

On October 2, Valery Syutkin, Sergey Mazaev, singer Fantine and other vocalists who have previously worked with the group, will perform with the Moscow Jazz Orchestra.

The concert on October 3 will be dedicated to the interpenetration of jazz and theater: Igor Butman and Alexey Guskov, accompanied by the Moscow Jazz Orchestra, will present a musical-documentary performance “Jazz from the First Person”, with the lyrics created by the author of the film script “Jazz 100”, jazz historian, Kirill Moshkov.

After a series of Moscow concerts, the Orchestra will go on a tour of 25 cities of Russia: the artists will visit St. Petersburg, Tula, Krasnoyarsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Magadan, Arkhangelsk, Salekhard, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don and others.
