There are rumors among the performers about the forced transfer of rights to music to Russian Authors’ Society and SOYUZ MUSIC. This is due to the fact that such big labels as Sony Music, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group left Russian market. However, these rumors are not entirely true. As long as the situation remains unresolved, no decisive steps will be taken.
Alexey Karelov, Executive Director at Russian Authors’ Society, commented on the situation as follows: “Nationalization is the forced transfer of assets under state control. Even if certain labels or production centers wished to transfer the rights to their sound tracks to someone, this would be a common commercial deal. Russian Authors’ Society is a state-accredited organization for the collective management of copyright and carries out its activities within the framework of the powers granted by state accreditation and agreements with copyright holders.
