Moscow will host the International Conference ERA IP Quorum “Creative Property: Intellectual Economy”

04.05.2024

On April 26, the Russian Center for the Circulation of Rights to the Results of Creative Activities (RCIS) and Rospatent will hold the International Conference ERA IP Quorum “Creative Property: Intellectual Economy” in Skolkovo Innovation Center Technopark. Representatives of technology, creative business and lawyers will discuss current issues of intellectual property law in relation to the current state of business practice, creative economy and public policy.

The conference is the result of synergy of two forums that are most important for the industry – the Era of IP and IPQuorum. The combined efforts of Rospatent and RCIS will facilitate a fruitful exchange of experience between representatives of the creative and technology business, lawyers, corporations and development institutions.

The Russian Patent Office will present its expertise in developing the intellectual property sphere at the conference. As noted by the head of Rospatent, Yuri Zubov, today technological sovereignty has turned from an ideal goal into a completely practical task: “We’re striving for technological independence from Western vendors, including in industries that are critical to the economy. In 2023, domestic developers filed 9 % more applications for invention registration than last year. The steady growth of patent activity is primarily due to the use of government support measures for knowledge-intensive enterprises. As part of the roadmap for transforming the business climate, we are improving the legislative framework, developing accessible financial instruments, establishing tax preferences, and setting up a lending mechanism secured by intellectual property rights”.

According to Yuri Zubov, the conference program combines theoretical depth and practical acuity: “Over 20 sessions imply consideration of topics from various angles: in the most general, problematic key, in the context of law enforcement, from the point of view of the industries involved and in the context of existing applied services. This gives a comprehensive vision of the agenda and allows us to find new, unusual solutions for society, business and state”.

Key topics of the business agenda are: intellectual rights as a guarantee of technological sovereignty and pledge of sustainable business development, innovative tools in science and education, and trends in law enforcement in the creative sphere. A special place in the event network is occupied by the partnership block with BRICS countries. The BRICS intellectual property agencies will discuss their areas of work and current tasks, share information on the functioning of national IP systems and the main trends in their development.

The importance of the conference can hardly be overestimated in the context of the success that creative industries have achieved against the backdrop of market demarcation and geopolitical turbulence, noted Andrey Krichevsky, RCIS Chairman. “In the past two years, the creative sector of the economy, which seemed fragile and unnecessary to someone, has shown extraordinary resilience. Russian cinemas collected a record box office of 5.8 billion rubles during the New Year holidays. At the same time, over 95% of films shown in cinemas were Russian. Russian music streaming services have increased their audience by a quarter. We constantly hear about new names in fashion, design, gastronomy. Today we can confidently say that the bet on creative industries in their inextricable connection with the IP market has proved absolutely correct”, he noted.

It was this positive experience that showed the need to consolidate key players in the IP sphere to develop new effective solutions for the enhancement of the creative sector within the IP market.
