The 10th Anniversary Conference Global IP Exchange 2019 concluded its work in Berlin. The IPChain association actively participated in the business program, organized jointly with the Skolkovo Foundation two events and held dozens of negotiations with top international companies from more than 30 countries of the world.

Global IP Exchange, which took place between March 11 and March 13, brought together more than 100 top managers not only from IP sphere but also from a wide variety of industries. During three days of the event in addition to the main program, the participants held about 300 personal business meetings. For example, IPChain experts within the networking programme held negotiations with representatives of such companies as SAP, Microsoft, Lenovo, TetraPak, Google, Samsung, etc.

During the Global IP Exchange the IPChain Association and the Skolkovo Foundation held an interactive business-lunch “Intellectual Property Market: “blue ocean” or just hype?”

5 supporters and 5 opponents of the idea of the IP market success discussed this topic. Among the obstacles to market development were mentioned the following: reevaluation of the IP assets, lack of patents backup by real products, legal restrictions, the exploitation of the terms “blockchain” and “artificial intelligence” for a showreel, etc. At the same time, supporters of the “blue ocean” idea noted, that IP promotes the development of the R&D sphere, forms a culture of open innovations, stimulates cross industrial interaction, gives rise to an “intangible currency”, etc.

The second event, held by the IPChain Association within the conference in Berlin, was the round table “New types of intangible assets and their relationship with intellectual property”. During the discussion the results of the IP market research by the law office of the patent attorney and the attorney on intellectual property Matthew M. Yospin (USA), by the partner of the Noerr Law Office Torsten Kraul (Germany) and the international law company Baker McKenzie were presented.

“The emergence of new types of intangible assets (IA) assigns to the global community the task on creation of new algorithms of participants interaction, new ways of protection and new law enforcement practice that will allow the regulation of a changing market,” Matthew Yospin concluded.

“Today in Germany the need to recognize the absolute right to such IAs as data and know-how in order to allow their commercialization is being increasingly discussed,” said the partner of Noerr Law Office Torsten Kraul, in his speech.

The Vice-President for legal affairs of the IPChain Association Irina Yakovleva highly appreciated the presented studies and noted that they “allow us to get an actual confirmation of the current fundamental changes in the global IP market, for which IPChain calls to prepare for”.

As a business infrastructure IPChain creates conditions for comprehensive work with new types of IP objects with the help of new data models. To prepare for changes you should have a reliable forecast, current details on processes with intangible assets and IP objects. That is why we pay a lot of attention to market research,” stressed Irina Yakovleva.

Closing the round table the President of the IPChain Association Andrey Krichevsky explained what IPChain is undertaking to improve the situation on the IP market.

According to Andrey Krichevsky: “The current goal of IPChain is to create an infrastructure for business that would allow efficient interaction of market participants on principles of transparency and trust. Currently new types of objects and authors are emerging in IP sphere under the pressure of the rapidly changing digital world. And nobody has any idea what to do with them. Our task is to identify these objects, categorize and describe them, form mechanisms for their protection and commercialization, which should reflect relevant market demands. Such standards, algorithms and market practice are missing. IPChain is in the process of creation of such algorithms and precedents from the ground up. Many infrastructure nodes are already running, many are just to be launched. But we started our movement and invite everyone who intends to work with intellectual property in the near digital future to join us.”
