The 9th International Contest of young performers “Gnesin Jazz 2019” ended in Moscow

On December 7, 2019, in the Concert Hall of the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music hosted the award ceremony of the 9th Competition and Festival of young jazz musicians “Gnesin Jazz 2019″.

The chairman of the jury, creator and inspirer of the competition is Anatoly Kroll, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Vice-President of the Authors Council of the Russian Authors’ Society.

The jury of this year’s competition also included: Valery Grokhovsky, Vice President of the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music, the Dean of the Faculty of Art Pop Music; Alexander Oseychuk, Professor of the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music; Christina Krit, the Head of the Department of Pop Orchestras and Ensembles of the Moscow State Institute of Culture; Kirill Moshkov, Editor-in-Chief of Jazz.ru.

Competitive auditions were held in the form of three concerts, according to the results of which the best performers were selected. The participants competed in several categories: “Ensemble”, “Orchestra”, “Soloist. Guitar, bass, drums”, “Soloist. Piano”, “The best instrumentalist GNESIN – JAZZ-2019”, “The best arrangement of the jazz standard”, etc.

“Gnesin Jazz 2019” is one of the largest jazz festivals and contests dedicated to the work of young jazz artists. The organizer of the International Jazz Festival is the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The main objectives of the contest include the popularization and promotion of jazz art, introducing young people to the jazz genre, showing the works of the best jazz bands and performers of musical educational institutions specializing in professional education in the field of jazz music, creating the conditions for professional communication and artistic partnerships in joint jazz projects and so forth.
